The FAQ below answer common questions but are not an exhaustive list of resources or solutions.
If you have advising-related questions and can't find answers here, we recommend that you ask an advisor.
If it is your first year at Sampoerna University, you should meet with your advisor at least twice a semester – both before classes begin and at the end of the semester. We recommend all students meet their academic advisor and faculty advisor at least twice a semester.
Remember, the Add/Drop period, after midterms, and the end of the semester are the busiest advising periods. Don’t wait until the last minute to schedule an appointment!
A degree plan is a clear outline of all undergraduate courses and the recommended sequence of courses a student must complete with a grade of C or better to fulfill the requirements of their major for graduation. It is created in partnership by the student and their academic advisor. Each degree plan is major specific and is an important tool when planning the classes a student will take.
In addition, an official degree plan is a very important tool when planning the classes you will take in your remaining semesters to ensure you are making progress toward your degree.
If a student changes their major, they must prepare a new degree plan with their academic advisor and have their advisor sign off on the changes.
We want our students to be successful. Guiding students to select courses that they need in order to graduate helps students avoid taking “wasted” credits, saves money, and enables students to see their path to a bachelor’s degree.
Many of the General Education requirements are the same, regardless of one’s major. You can begin fulfilling these course requirements as you decide what major is right for you. We recommend reviewing major requirements and comparing degree plans to see which courses are most common across majors. If you are unsure how to begin, schedule an appointment with the Student Parent Advisory Center team.
Students who wish to transfer to a U.S. or other university after earning credit should speak to an academic advisor from the Student Parent Advisory Center, who will discuss your individual academic history and transfer options.
